My artwork is based on observation, most often of a still life or an interior. The compositions are often suggested to me by the particular randomness of a situation: a permanent recording of a transitory moment. If a figure isn’t depicted in a particular piece, some evidence of the visit is left behind. Detailed shapes, vivid color, and paths around and through the space define my work. A painter friend has described my work as a ‘joyful romp through space’.

Over the past few years, I have been exploring the iPad as a drawing and painting medium. As a long-time admirer of David Hockney, my interest was piqued when I first saw how he was able to use it to beautifully capture a moment in time. I use the iPad as a portable sketchbook, recording scenes that can be used in a later painting, or, just as often, its’ own medium that offers a multitude of possibilities.
